How Ghostbusters Changed My Life

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

I have never said this before; Ghostbusters Changed my life. You may be saying I am exaggerating, but it did because of the Ghostbusters 35th Anniversary and an event held in honor of that anniversary on the Sony Studio Lot in Culver City, California.

In 2019, I was in Los Angeles for Ghostbusters FanFest, and Ken and I went to Hollywood. We went to the TCL Chinese Theatre to see Dark Phoenix, and we walked Hollywood Blvd checking out the sites. The last time I did that walk was in 2005, when I made a solo trip to Los Angeles for a behind-the-scenes tour of The Los Angeles Film School.

I wanted to go to The Los Angeles Film School after that tour, but I allowed my fear to squash that dream. At the time, it was a one-year intensive program, so I would have needed to figure out tuition plus living expenses. That was something that 26-year-old me, that had no confidence, extremely low self-esteem, and zero self-worth, couldn’t see making it happen, and abandoned the dream.

So walking around Hollywood in 2019 stirred those old feelings of excitement to attend film school, and I explored the possibility. That’s when I discovered in the 14 years since being accepted and turning it down that the school evolved to offer not just degree options but also online options.

As you all know, I jumped at the opportunity.

Now look at me; 3 years later, I’m in my final class, a member of the Honor Society of Entertainment Arts, and graduating with a 4.0 GPA, plus tentatively accepted into the Entertainment Business Master Program at Full Sail University. What a ride these past three years have been. I’ve grown and learned so much in my time at the Los Angeles Film School.

So thank you, Wizard World, for putting on Ghostbusters Fan Fest on the Sony Studio Lot.

Fan Fest may not have been the best event, but because of that event my life has been completely changed forever.
